Why we exist
We believe a piece of embroidery can hold a whole history. By Palestinian Hands exists to share that history, and to support the artists who keep it alive, one stitch at a time.
Tatreez has been stitched by Palestinian women for generations. Its patterns record villages, families and the land itself, and each one is passed from hand to hand.
Every keffiyeh, wall hanging and artwork in our collection is made by hand in Arroub Refugee Camp. No two are ever exactly alike, because no two hands stitch the same way.
The makers
Our pieces are made by Palestinian artists living in Arroub Refugee Camp, in Bethlehem. Their skill has been handed down from mothers and grandmothers, and every piece carries a little of that inheritance.
When you choose a piece from our collection, you support their work and help keep this art alive for the next generation.
Stitched by hand
Never mass-produced, never machine-made.
One of a kind
Each piece carries the mark of the hands that made it.

The craft
Tatreez is the traditional embroidery of Palestine: a cross-stitch practised for centuries and passed down through families. Each region and village had its own patterns, so a dress could tell you where its maker came from.
In 2021, UNESCO recognised the art of embroidery in Palestine as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Motifs you'll find in our pieces
Saru
Strength and resilience: a tree that stands tall and stays rooted to the land.
Zaytoun
Peace, endurance and a deep connection to the trees that have fed families for generations.
Nijmeh
The eight-pointed star, a motif of light and hope, often linked to Bethlehem.
From thread to your home
Each design begins with traditional motifs, chosen and arranged by the artist, often from patterns she learned as a girl.
Every cross is sewn by hand, one at a time. A single piece holds many hours of patient, careful work.
Each piece is checked and finished by hand, so it arrives ready to be worn, hung or given.
It travels from Arroub Refugee Camp to you, carrying its story, and the story of the hands that made it, wherever it goes next.
