Why you'll love it
Handala holds a parachute in the colours of the Palestinian flag, hand-stitched in tatreez on an off-white T-shirt.
Fine black outlines and red, white and green stitching bring the design to the centre of the chest. A simple crew neck and short sleeves make it easy to wear every day.
Who is Handala?
Handala is the ten-year-old Palestinian refugee boy created by Palestinian cartoonist Naji al-Ali in 1969. Usually shown with his back to the viewer and his hands clasped behind him, he became a symbol of Palestinian identity, resistance and the right of return. Al-Ali said Handala would remain ten until he could return to his homeland. This embroidered design reimagines him holding a parachute in the colours of Palestine.
Hand-embroidered in Al Aroub Refugee Camp, Palestine. Available in S, M, L and XL.
